The majority of the second disc’s tracks were written and produced by Jackson, often in conjunction with collaborators. This is Jackson’s first album on his own label, MJJ Productions, and consists of two discs: the first disc (HIStory Begins) is a compilation of some of his greatest hits from 1979 onward, while the second disc (HIStory Continues) is a studio album composed entirely of new material. It is his fifth studio album released through Epic Records. HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (usually shortened to HIStory) is the ninth and penultimate studio album by American recording artist Michael Jackson.

It was my idea to get the rapper Heavy D to perform on there as well. He bought it to me as a DAT, and he told me there were things he wanted done, and I did them. He'd come in with an idea and I'd flesh it out in the studio. That's the way it worked a lot of the time.
He told me to see what I could do with it so I took it and created some more instruments and reproduced the record – and he loved it. Jam was a track that Michael had the idea for. It co-starred basketball legend Mihael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls, Heavy D and young rap duo, Kriss Kross. 'Jam' is a basketball term in the US, a theme Michael explored in the promo short film, which was directed by Michael and David Kellogg.
Jam charted at no.3 on the R&B singles chart and no.26 on the Hot 100 in the US, and no.13 in the UK - hit no.1 in Zimbabwe. Written by Michael with Teddy Riley, Bruce Swedien and Ivan Moore, and recorded for his Dangerous album issued in November 1991.
